Third Party Review of Our Sister Store, Merivale

The amateur journalist J. Arthur stopped by our sister store to review the shop and ask a few questions about the store. It's part of his latest project on his blog, Totally Marginal Opinions. Capital Pride

Capital Pride kicked off this past Friday and seems to be off to an excellent start! Be sure to check out the website http://www.capitalpride.ca/ for events and updates.

Our Pride window display is off to a slow start due to our skills not being able to keep up with our imaginations. We hope you'll stop by the store to see how it all works out, or maybe to pick up a colourful outfit for the Pride parade. My personal favourite is this shiny style from Red Corner. We recently received a shipment of gay movies which have been set for liquidation. They are primarily interracial titles and are on for a great price.

KiKi's Top Five Under $25: Lubes and Gels

With other lists, I've been able to be more objective about my lists and really argue my point for why I think those particular toys stood out. This list is going to be more subjective because lubes are more difficult to distinguish and yet are also such a personal taste. Still, hopefully this list will give you an idea of some lubes to try or to keep an eye out for:

Feature Friday: Cock Rings N' Sleeves

Cock rings and sleeves are some of the things I get the most questions about. I think this is for three main reasons:

1. They're one of the few toys that are used by men.
2. They're one of the few toys primarily intended for couples.
3. Their use is not common knowledge, so they can be a little intimidating.

Like so many toys, rings and sleeves can be a great addition to your sex life as long as they're used safely. Here's the basic rundown on rings and sleeves so you can figure out if they're the toy(s) for you!

RINGS

Cock rings intensify erection and stimulation by limiting bloodflow out of the penis. The arteries that bring blood into the penis are further towards the center of the penis whereas the veins bringing blood back to the heart are closer to the surface, so just a bit of pressure from a cock ring is enough to hold blood in the penis. This leads to extra swelling which makes for a somewhat larger, more durable, and more sensitive erection.

Risks and considerations:

• Cock rings should not be worn for more than 30 minutes at a time.
• Cock rings are not recommended for people on medication which thins the blood or those who have heart disease or sickle-cell disease.
• If there is any numbness or coolness felt in the genital area while a cock ring is in use, the ring should be removed immediately in order to avoid nerve damage.

Proper use:

• Place the cock ring at the base of the penis. Some are designed to fit around the scrotum as well, so be sure to check the packaging to figure out which model of cock ring you have.
• If using in conjunction with a condom, place the condom on first and the cock ring over top. It is recommended, in this case, to use a cock ring that fits around that shaft and scrotum in order to avoid friction from the ring tearing the condom.
• A bit of lube can help to get the ring on and off.

Just the tip:

• When getting used to cock rings, you may want to try a model with an adjustable size to get used to the sensation. A product like the Blue Loop ($14.99) is adjustable, making it easy to get used to and easy to remove, making it great for first time users.
• TPE is known for being supple yet durable, so it makes an excellent jelly cock ring. A product like Get Hard ($18.99, set of three) is made of TPE and features three slightly different sized cock rings so you can be sure to get the snug fit you want.

SLEEVES

Depending on the design, cock sleeves will add girth, length, and/or texture to a penis. A person may choose to wear a sleeve in order to limit the sensation they feel in order to last longer or to vary the sensation their partner feels.

Risks and considerations:

• If used in conjunction with a condom, the advice I found was to wear the condom over the sleeve. Be wary, though, as anything this bulky can increase friction thus increasing risk of the condom tearing
• If you come while wearing a sleeve, be sure to clean it promptly: semen gets harder to clean once it dries out.

Just the tip:

• Many sleeves are netted patterns which increase texture without minimizing sensation very much. In practice, they function more like a cock ring. If this interests you, you may want to try the Orgasmus Wunder ($9.99).
• One of the great things about sleeves is that they can function in ways a penis never could on its own. The Vibrating "O" Plus ($43.95) has a vibrating tip which can either run constantly or vibrate on contact. The Lust Explorer ($26.99) is not only ridged along the length of the shaft but has a vibrating protrusion angled to stimulate a partner.

I've lived in Ottawa about 6 years now, so as much as I've had the chance to find some great joints, I'm also still always finding out about new and exciting local spots. If you're looking to hit up the town, here are some local spots you might want to check out*:

In the heart of the market is Kinki Sushi, an Asian fusion restaurant that has managed to make quite a name for itself. Of particular interest is their naked sushi nights, where models are used as platters for the evening's meal.

If you've stopped by recently, you may have noticed there's something a little... different about our store.

We're all a tad obsessed with Halloween. Can ya tell?

Here's some of the latest and greatest things happening at our little shop of horrors and whores (haha):

• We've gone sticker crazy
  There's signs all about the store to highlight staff picks and Halloween treats. We hope this helps make our store more accessible and our staff more familiar.
• We've got new BDSM gear
  We've got fish hook gags and combination crop / feather tickler tools. We have shock therapy kits and basic whips. We have several kinds of eye masks and hand cuffs. Best of all, we have staff willing to talk to you about our selection so you can find the toy best suited to your interests.
• We've got a broad range of DVDs available
  I can't emphasize enough how impressive our selection has been lately. I keep getting distracted reading covers when I'm supposed to be sorting stock. We have adult diaper titles, a slew of Barefoot and Pregnant videos, and a bunch of sexy women of colour pornstars (specifically, we have a lot of stuff with Pinky). 
• We've added sub-sections to our DVD sales area
  Got a particular kink? Do you prefer anal videos that are also amateur? You're in luck: our DVD sales area has been further divided and labeled so you can find exactly what you want all the easier. To make it even easier, ask a staff member to point you in the right direction for the section you're looking for. No, really -- we all get pretty bored and / or lonely during our long shifts. It's nice to feel useful and talk to someone other than ourselves once in a while.

We Have the Best Customers

A couple came in today and told me that someone had added a sticker to our window, one which reads "Does Jesus go in with you?". Not only am I appreciative that they took the time to tell me, but one of them went on to say the following (I'm paraphrasing a bit here):
"I want to put another sticker up saying "yes", because Jesus walks with me. I'm Christian, and I have sex, so there it is."
Seriously, we have the best customers.

Store Update

• We are now aiming to change our mannequin display on a weekly basis. We invite you to stop by and see what our valued plastic employees are wearing this week.
• We're shifting to a new stocking system for our rentals. The tabs look a little different, but everything else is the same. The great news? The rentals section and process will remain the same, but it will be quicker for us to find your rentals or locate discs that have been put in the wrong case.

JUST THE TIP: We know that when you bring home a toy, cleaning isn't the first thing on your mind, but it should be. Toys are shipped from all over the world, handled by clerks and shifted through factories, and then often checked by employees in store or examined by curious customers. All in all, it's better safe than sorry. • Welcome to Leah, our new assistant manager! She seems to be off to a great start. obviously, no one can replace Chantel, but we're sure Leah will bring her own charm and skill to the post.
• We have a fantastic new dancer pole display and a new window display! Although we completely understand the temptation, please refrain from in-store dance demonstrations.
• We've rearranged our lingerie and DVDs! We're expecting this will make it easier for you to find exactly what you're looking for quickly & efficiently. Remember: if there's anything you can't find in store, our staff is happy to help. We're always looking for ways to improve, so if there's something we don't carry even though we really should, let us know :)

Just the Tip: Shopping on a budget? Look for toys with the batteries included to save yourself time & fuss, such as Les Petites bullets, $22.99 (even includeds a textured bullet sleeve). Look for toys with multiple features or uses: some double-ended dildos will have different shapes on each end, and many vibrating cockrings are similarly priced to other bullet vibes but include their namesake cockring feature.

Feature Friday: Glass Toys

I have a new-found weakness for glass products. Thanks to "Joy" of the Reflections collection by Doc Johnson and "The Thorn" by GlassTIX, I can now share this love of mine with you, oh faceless masses of yon internet.

 

 

 

Here are some of the things I love about glass toys:
